Quince, cider and a bake-off: Norton Priory celebrates the harvest
Runcorn's Norton Priory throws open its orchards for the Autumn Orchard Festival on 10 and 11 October, with a brand-new bake-off for 2026.
Runcorn and Widnes face each other across the River Mersey, joined by the arched Silver Jubilee Bridge and the newer Mersey Gateway. Widnes grew as a centre of the chemical industry around Spike Island, where the Sankey Canal meets the river, while Runcorn sits beside the Bridgewater Canal. Further along the estuary, Frodsham lies beneath its wooded sandstone hill and Helsby has its own hill with wide views. Below is the latest good news from both towns and the people on either bank.
