Ask a Cheshire child to name their favourite day out and there is a good chance the answer will involve ice cream. The Ice Cream Farm at Tattenhall, near Chester, has long been a family favourite, and it has the silverware to prove it.

The attraction was named Visitor Attraction of the Year at the Marketing Cheshire Tourism Awards 2025, a ceremony that also celebrated the likes of Rookery Hall Hotel and Spa, Crewe Hall and The Pheasant Inn in the Tattenhall area.

At its heart, the farm is about real dairy ice cream, served in an array of flavours, but over the years it has grown into a full family day out, with play areas and attractions designed to keep children busy between scoops. It is the sort of place where a quick stop for a cone can easily turn into a whole afternoon, and where grandparents, parents and toddlers can all find something to enjoy.

Recent additions show the farm is not resting on its laurels. Mini Land Rover Rocky Road, aimed at children aged three to ten, gives young drivers the chance to tackle an off-road course in replica mini Land Rovers, and is billed as the first experience of its kind in the North West.

Grown-ups have been catered for too. The Pantry is a new 180-seat food and drink space created in the farm's transformed original blue building, offering a more relaxed place to refuel during a busy day. The investment reflects how far the attraction has come, evolving from a simple treat stop into a much-loved family destination in the west of the county.

Tattenhall itself makes a lovely add-on. The village sits at the foot of the Peckforton Hills, with Beeston Castle and the Sandstone Trail close by, so it is easy to pair a morning of play with an afternoon walk or a pub lunch. For visitors staying in Chester, it makes a simple and rewarding trip out into the countryside.

As the October half-term approaches, the farm is likely to be busy, so it is worth checking opening times and booking ahead where possible.
