Hot tubs and big skies at Welltrough Hall Farm's adults-only glamping

For couples in search of peace and quiet, a working farm in east Cheshire has become something of a well-kept secret, though perhaps not for much longer. Welltrough Hall Farm, just outside the village of Lower Withington near Macclesfield, has once again been recognised as one of the best adults-only sites in the North West.

In the 2025 Camping and Glamping Awards, hosted by Campsites.co.uk, Welltrough was named runner-up for Best Adult Only Site in North West England. It marked the third year in a row that the farm has collected a title in the awards, keeping company on the regional shortlist with sites in the Lake District.

The setting is the star. The site looks out across the family's 270-acre farm and the Cheshire countryside beyond, and its adults-only policy means the soundtrack is more birdsong than bustle. It is the sort of place where the main decisions of the day are whether to go for a countryside walk, read a book on the deck or simply watch the light change over the fields.

Glampers can choose from a small collection of cosy, characterful units, each sleeping two. There are three glamping pods named Alpaca, Badger and Owl, each with its own toilet and shower, kitchen and double bed, alongside a woodland pod and a shepherd's hut with a generous kitchen area.

The finishing touch, and the reason many guests book, is that every one comes with its own electrically heated hot tub. Free wifi is available in each pod and hut, and well-behaved dogs are welcome as long as they are kept on a lead.

Welltrough also caters for touring caravans and motorhomes on fully serviced hardstanding pitches, making it a handy base for exploring east Cheshire. Jodrell Bank, the Peak District fringes and the market towns of Macclesfield and Congleton are all within a short drive.

With autumn colour on the trees and cooler evenings ahead, there are few better ways to end a day than with a soak under the stars.
