Alsager's Manor House earns spa world's top five-bubble rating

There are spa days, and then there are spa days that make you wonder why you ever bother going further afield. The Spa at Manor House Alsager has firmly placed itself in the second camp, after being awarded the coveted Five Bubble Luxury rating by The Good Spa Guide for 2025.

It is the highest level of recognition the guide hands out, and it puts the independent, family-owned hotel and spa in east Cheshire among the very best spa destinations in the country. Remarkably, it is one of only two spas in the whole of the North West to have reached that top tier.

The guide's reviewers singled out the spa's beautifully designed garden, superb facilities, good range of treatments and delicious food, while also praising its "laid back vibe" and "relaxed and friendly service". For a spa that has invested heavily in its outdoor spaces, it is a fitting reward.

Much of the excitement has centred on the Secret Spa Garden, which opened on Friday 18 April 2025. The expansion brought a second swim-up bar, christened the Bothy Bar, joining the spa's popular signature swim-up bar. Alongside it sits a hydrotherapy pool heated to 37°C, complete with jets and integrated seating, plus a cold-water plunge pool with a cascading waterfall that is big enough for several guests to brave together.

Heat-seekers are well catered for too. The Hot House, a Finnish sauna, comes with views across the Cheshire countryside, while two large greenhouses have been turned into relaxation spaces with heated floors, meaning the garden can be enjoyed whatever the season throws at it.

The improvements have not stopped at the garden gate. In autumn 2025 the spa expanded its guest facilities with a second female changing room fitted with 70 premium lockers, taking its total female locker capacity to 139, a welcome upgrade on busy weekends when the spa is in full swing.

The spa's growing reputation has also been noticed closer to home, with the hotel named among the Alsager finalists in the 2025 Cheshire Muddy Stilettos Awards, which celebrate independent lifestyle businesses across the county.
